Sputnik processes your uploaded documents automatically. It extracts text, identifies people and organizations, detects key dates, and generates summaries. What happens depends on the file type.

Documents

PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), and OpenDocument (ODT) files are fully supported. Sputnik extracts the text content and runs AI analysis on it. For PDFs, this includes OCR — scanned documents are read just like digital ones.

Emails

EML and MSG (Outlook) email files are supported. Sputnik extracts the email content and any metadata.

Images

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, and SVG files are supported. Sputnik sends the image directly to AI for analysis, so it can read photographed documents, screenshots, or any other image content.

Audio and Video

MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA (audio) and MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WMV, WebM, FLV, 3GP (video) files are supported. Sputnik transcribes the audio and then analyzes the transcript. Media files larger than 50 MB will be stored but not transcribed.

Text Files

Plain text, HTML, CSV, RTF, XML, and JSON files are supported and analyzed directly.

What Sputnik Extracts

For all supported file types, AI analysis produces:
  • A title and summary
  • Document date
  • People mentioned and their roles
  • Organizations and legal entities
  • Timeline events
  • Signatures (where applicable)

File Size Limits

The maximum upload size is 200 MB per file.

Unsupported Files

Files that don’t match a supported type are stored safely in your project but won’t be analyzed. You can still access and download them. Password-protected or encrypted files cannot be processed. Remove the password and re-upload if you need analysis.
